Grave stele of Platthis, daughter of Eubios

MÖ 3.- 2. yüzyıl

Sabancı Üniversitesi Sakıp Sabancı Müzesi (Emirgan, İstanbul, Türkiye)

The rectangular stele tapers towards the top and is surmounted by a plain pediment over which is a second in low relief. In the recessed panel the dead woman is depicted in the centre with a second woman standing beside her. To their right and left are small figures of servant girls. The girl on the left is holding a parasol with a long handle over her mistress. This individualized scene is common in art of the eastern region. A Greek inscription below the pediment reads, “Platthis Daughter of Eubios”.
