Makta

19. yüzyıl

Sabancı Üniversitesi Sakıp Sabancı Müzesi (Emirgan, İstanbul, Türkiye)

The makta (a tablet for splitting and sharpening reed pen nibs) is made of ivory, with carved decoration of leaves and branches. The oval section at the top bears the words ‘Yâ Ali’. A hole at the tip shows that it was designed to be carried on a chain. The name ‘Hüseyin’ engraved on the underside must be the name of the owner.
