Corinthian Column Capital

MS 5. yüzyıl sonu - 6. yüzyıl başı

Sabancı Üniversitesi Sakıp Sabancı Müzesi (Emirgan, İstanbul, Türkiye)

The body of this column capital, dated to the late 5th-early 6th centuries, is decorated with an acanthus motif aligned in two rows. The long ends towards the center of these motifs are slightly bent outwards. Small leaf motifs can also be seen between the acanthus leaves in the lower register, with their ends touching each other. The motifs in the upper row are broader than those on the bottom. Drill holes can be found at regular intervals along the spines of all leaf motifs on the capital.
