Karacena Hussar’s Armour

17. yüzyılın üçüncü çeyreği

Sabancı Üniversitesi Sakıp Sabancı Müzesi (Emirgan, İstanbul, Türkiye)

A costly and very ornamental armour, popular later in the 17th century, used by the better-off companions and commanding officers, even though technically it was less comfortable to wear than plate armour. It is composed of a breastplate, a backplate, a gorget decorated with the Pogoń coat of arms, the crest of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, a pair of pauldrons with masks, a pair of vambraces with gauntlets, and a helmet with cheek-pieces. No nose guard. All parts of the armour made of elk skin, with the overlapping steel scales sewn onto it.
