Composite Column Capital

19. yüzyıl

Sabancı Üniversitesi Sakıp Sabancı Müzesi (Emirgan, İstanbul, Türkiye)

This marble capital from the 19th century is a composite structure, a hybrid of the Ionic and Corinthian orders. The cut kalathos surface of the capital is decorated with two rows of acanthus motifs. The longest-tipped of the leaves, with five slices and three points, are in the middle section. The curved ends of these motifs touch the leaves on the sides. Between the flat abacus and the echinus there is a cross motif, and on the volutes there are three-pointed leaves bent towards the abacus.
