The text is written on gold-flecked paper in nestalik script, arranged in two columns inside ruled gold borders with black outlining. The medallion-shaped frontispiece on f. 1v has a broad illuminated border surrounded by blue darts. The central field is decorated with flowers and leaves on gold branches. At the upper left of the same page are two seal impressions, one small the other large. On the large seal are the words, ‘Min temellükâti el-fakîr ... [illegible word] Mustafâ Sıdkî gufira lehu [1]075’ (This book belongs to the humble ... [illegible word] Mustafa Sıdkî –may God bless him– 1664-65) and gives the seal engraver’s name as İzlî. On the small seal is inscribed verse 39 from the Kehf surah: ‘This is the work of God, produced not with my power but with the power of God,’ and above a six-pointed star inside a tiny circle. The first page of text is headed by an illuminated panel that is evidently the work of a master illuminator in the years 1495-1500 (f. 1r). In the centre of the broad rectangular section is a cartouche filled with gold rumi scrollwork, and the area outside the cartouche is decorated with red and blue trifoliate flowers, slender gold branches and rumi motifs on lapis blue and gold grounds. Inside the narrow border at the top are gilded rumi cartouches on a lapis blue ground and red and blue buds. The border is encircled by blue darts. In square panels between the lines are gold rumi motifs on scrolling branches painted on a sized ground, and gilded cloud motifs. The marbled paper on the covers and doublures dates from the 20th century.
