Osman Erden: "Memory in German Contemporary Art"

Osman Erden: "Memory in German Contemporary Art"

30 April 1945, the day Adolf Hitler committed suicide at the end of the Second World War, is widely regarded as Germany's 'zero hour'. This moment signified a deliberate break from the past, with a fresh wave of German art emerging as part of the country's cultural renewal. The ZERO movement, which gained prominence in the late 1950s, embodied this shift. In 1963, Georg Baselitz's first solo exhibition, which was raided by the police, marked yet another turning point. Artists like Baselitz, Gerhard Richter, and Anselm Kiefer disrupted the national consciousness by confronting the recent past -- one that many sought to forget -- through their work. This talk will examine how these artists created a sense of unrest in post-war Germany.

The conference will be held in Turkish, and no translation services will be provided.

A valid museum entry ticket and registration online is required to attend the conference. Click here to register.
