The first part of the manuscript consists of Delâ’ilü’l-Hayrât, a prayer book written by the Moroccan Islamic scholar el-Cezûlî (d. 1465), followed by the names of the Prophet, illustrations of the Haremü’ş-Şerif (the Kaaba and city of Mecca) and the Ravzatü’n-Nebî (tomb of the Prophet Muhammad and city of Medina), and prayers. On the double spread following the names of the Prophet Muhammad and the reference to the burial place of his two companions, Ömer and Ebubekir, are pictures of the holy places in the cities of Mecca (f.12v) and Medina (f.13r), their buildings and surrounding countryside, beneath a blue sky dotted with gold stars to suggest a scene by night. The chestnut coloured leather binding with flap is original. Both covers are gold-tooled with a medallion and cornerpieces inside a broad border. The colophon of this exquisite illuminated prayer anthology reads, ‘Copied by a humble servantİbrahim, known as Dâimî. May God forgive him, his mother and father and those who look upon this work.’
