The kıt’a consists of one line of sülüs and below this three lines of nesih. The line in sülüs is a hadith reading, ‘The scholars among believers are like the prophets of the children of Israel.’ The lines in nesih are words of praise of Ali spoken by the Prophet Muhammad: ‘The Prophet of God declared: I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate. Whoever seeks knowledge let him come to the gate. The Prophet of God spoke truly. O my God! May prayers and salutations be upon Muhammad, the prophet of compassion and interceder on behalf of the faithful, on his family and on all his disciples’. The last line is the colophon: ‘Scribbled by chief of calligraphers, Hacı Ahmed Kâmil.’ Since we know that he was given the title of chief calligrapher in 1915, we can date this kıt’a to after this. The speckled marbling in the inner border of the kıt’a and the marbling in the outer border are the work of the renowned calligrapher and marbling artist Necmeddin Okyay (d. 1976). The panels at either side of the panel containing the lines of nesih script and the space after the line of sülüs are each decorated with a large flower.
