This kıt’a has no colophon giving the identity of the calligrapher. However, on the back is a note by Ahmed Kâmil Akdik saying, ‘The writing of Şeyh Hamdullah Efendi’. It was customary for leading calligraphers to write notes of this kind identifying the calligraphers of works that had either been left unsigned or whose colophon page was missing, and this tradition continued into the mid-20th century. Such notes on the back of calligraphic compositions or on the last pages of books were written by master calligraphers confident of their ability to recognise the hands of eminent forerunners. This kıt’a consists of a line of sülüs reading, ‘O my God! I take refuge from trepidations in you.’ The two lines of nesih and below this consist of a hadith: ‘The Prophet of God–may God’s prayers and salutations be upon him–declared: Those who say many prayers in my name shall have many huris in heaven.’ The margins of the kıt’a are decorated in the traditional way with vassale collage in marbled paper flecked with silver.
