Paper shears

19. yüzyıl

Sabancı Üniversitesi Sakıp Sabancı Müzesi (Emirgan, İstanbul, Türkiye)

The handles of the shears are designed to form the words ‘Yâ Fettah’ (God is the opener of all doors’, which is one of the ninety-nine names of God) repeated twice in a mirror composition. A fine example of this design can also be seen on some doorknobs of certain buildings, like the Sultan Mahmud I Library situated within the Museum of Haghia Sophia. The entire surface of the shears, including the ring grips, is decorated with gold inlay floral motifs. The inner surfaces of the handles are decorated with a cypress tree with floral motifs.
