Divit and makta

18. yüzyılın ilk yarısı

Sabancı Üniversitesi Sakıp Sabancı Müzesi (Emirgan, İstanbul, Türkiye)

The pencase is marked with the tuğra of Sultan Ahmed III (r. 1703-30). The base and rim of the inkwell and both ends of the pencase are decorated with gilded floral motifs. Maker’s marks stamped on the edge of the inkwell’s lid and side of the inkwell attached to the pencase show that it was made by a silversmith named Ali. A chain attached to the lid of the pencase made it possible for the calligrapher to attach the divit to his waistband.
