Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars: The Birth of a Secret Language

An event with the collaboration of S.U. Sakıp Sabancı Museum and Psike Istanbul, Study Group of International Psychoanalysis Association (IPA) in Turkey, in conjunction with the Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars exhibition.

Panelists:

Aslı Day, Nayla De Coster, Melis Tanık Sivri, Ümit Eren Yurtsever

“...Pure love

tickling the necks of

swallows”...

(Poetic Games, Miró)

Where do women, birds and stars come from? Are they from the land, the sky, or the land Miró’s poetry was born in? Was there only a spot of paint in the beginning? Black lines cutting through air like a sickle, stains in different colors and found objects picked up from here or there… How should one regard Miró’s art? Can psychoanalysis be a way of getting closer to Miró’s art, or the poetry that stands right behind it? Can Miró’s sculptures and Freud’s “The Interpretation of Dreams” be thought of together? Can women be as free as birds and stars? In addition to these questions posed by the panelists, the notions of free association, the unconscious, unconscious fantasies, the process of creativity and concepts of symbolization from poetry to painting will be discussed with a psychoanalytic approach. With the hope of meeting in an interactive event that will enable us to think together through contemporary art, where attendants will share their own associations and fantasies...

Admission to the event is free of charge for museum visitors. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided.

The Joan Miró exhibition titled “Women, Birds, Stars” will be open to visit until March 8, 2015 at the S.U. Sakıp Sabancı Museum.
